Jesus, the Good & Chief Shepherd, dealt not strictly in the spiritual needs of humanity, but also cared for the practical, physical needs of His flock (healing the sick, benevolence to the needy, etc.). The Church is instructed to structure its leadership and ministry in a similar way, with shepherds (overseers) to care for the spiritual needs of the flock, and servants (deacons) to care for the practical needs.
