No King But JESUS

Heartbreakingly, all humanity has a long track record of rejecting those sent by God to guide, counsel, exhort, or rule. When God shows up in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, the rightful and true King, offering citizenship and life in His invading kingdom, humanity behaves no differently. Instead of receiving His reign, they put their King on trial and cried for his crucifixion. This ultimately forces every one of us to ask ourselves how we’d fill in the blank when we say, “NO KING BUT ______________."

Fight, Flight, or…

We often focus on the betrayal by Judas as the main theme of the Garden of Gethsemane, but John's account focuses on a deeper truth about Jesus. He emphasizes a particular trait in Jesus’ character, one we as His disciples will need in this increasingly hostile and consequential world: COURAGE.

That We May Be…

Just before Jesus goes to the cross to offer up His life for us, He goes to the Father to pray for “those who believe in me through the [disciples] word.” Church… Jesus prayed for you, and His prayerful concerns were less about what we’d DO and more about who we’d BE. Into the World

As Jesus’ disciples sent into this world that is still ruled over by the evil one, we face all kinds of threats to our faith and mission, most of which we don’t even see or know of. When Jesus was leaving, He prayed to His father for His disciples, making two requests to His Father that He has answered and still answers today: “Holy Father, protect them… sanctify them."

Is the Resurrection Necessary?

This Easter, like every Easter, we celebrate the resurrection of Christ Jesus from the dead, but why? If rescue from sin and death were what we needed, didn’t Jesus accomplish that in His death on the cross? Wasn’t forgiveness for sin offered at Calvary? So why do we need the empty tomb? Your Sorrow Will Turn to Joy

You know how it is: take only a few minutes to look at what’s going on around the world and your joy can quickly turn to sorrow, more deeply if you personally experience the sting that comes from the fallenness of creation. However, the one who is in Christ is given a guaranteed and unshakable promise from Jesus: "Your sorrow will turn to joy… and no one will take away your joy from you.” Why?
